In spaces like hallways, kitchens, and staircases, durability is key. We typically recommend satin or eggshell finishes for walls in these areas. They’re easier to clean than flat paint and hold up better against scuffs, fingerprints, and moisture.

For trim, doors, and baseboards, a semi-gloss finish is ideal. It’s more resistant to wear and tear, easier to wipe down, and gives a subtle contrast against matte or eggshell walls.

We start by inspecting the walls for damage, things like nail holes, hairline cracks, or dents. Those get filled, sanded, and smoothed out. Glossy or uneven surfaces are scuffed or primed to ensure the new paint sticks properly. If the walls have stains or water marks, we use stain-blocking primer to prevent bleed-through.

Furniture is either moved out or covered. Floors, trim, and fixtures are fully protected with drop cloths, plastic, and tape. We also remove outlet covers and light switch plates so every detail is clean and consistent. Prep is half the job. When it’s done right, the paint looks better and lasts longer.

We take extra care when working in homes with children and pets. Our team uses low-VOC and low-odour paints to maintain air quality during and after the job. We also work in sections to limit disruption and keep the space as safe and clean as possible.

We’ll let you know which areas need to be off-limits during drying times and make sure things like drop cloths and tools are out of reach. If you have specific concerns about schedules or safety, we’re happy to work with you on a plan that makes sense.

Most interior paints dry to the touch within a few hours, but curing takes longer,  usually 1 week or more. You can safely move furniture back into place the next day in most cases, but we recommend waiting at least 24 hours before hanging anything on the walls.

We’ll always tell you when it’s safe to use the space again, based on the paint and finish we use. Low-VOC options dry faster and have less odour, which helps if you’re planning to use the room quickly after the job is done.

For most painting projects, you can remain at home. However, it’s essential to coordinate with your painters to avoid fumes and disruptions. Many modern paints have low or zero VOCs, reducing strong odours, but proper ventilation is still necessary. If major repairs or spraying equipment are involved, some areas of your home might be temporarily off-limits.
